NACHP Distinguished Lecture Series: 'Indigenous Cancer Burdens and Solutions. Trust Community Wisdom'

The Native American Center for Health Professions (NACHP) held its first Distinguished Lecture Series this academic year on December 10. The lecture featured Kris Rhodes, MPH (Bad River and Fond du Lac Bands of Lake Superior Chippewa) from the American Indian Cancer Foundation. This lecture series is sponsored by the Indians into Medicine (INMED), Indian Health Service grant.

In Rhodes' lecture, "Indigenous Cancer Burdens and Solutions. Trust Community Wisdom," she shared available data on American Indian and Alaska Native cancer incidence and mortality by region. She shared how the American Indian Cancer Foundation is working with partners across Indian Country to change cancer outcomes by addressing the identified barriers and solutions based on a combination of community wisdom, traditional teachings, and scientific knowledge.

The lecture will be available in the School of Medicine and Public Health's video library.
