Online Contemporary Indigenous Art Class Offered for Summer

Contemporary Indigenous Art (AIS 450:023), a summer 2021 online course, will examine the art of contemporary Native American artists as it relates to the social relations in the U.S. We will explore historical, political, and aesthetic roots and directions of the artists.

The course consists of several readings, video screenings, film reviews, lectures, and live online discussions. An interdisciplinary approach to art making and visual culture will be used to discuss artistic style, imagery, representation, and subject matter.
